bloopers for the final opening

Precautionary measures (COVID-19)

Image
Given the current situation we had to take precautionary measures during the production. we made sure that everyone is wearing the mask other than the shooting. We also tried to maintain social distancing and did our shoot at locations with no or minimum no. of people. Also, we made sure that everyone is fully vaccinated and is not having any symptoms like cough, fever during the production.

character description

we used three actors. Simran, the girl is the main lead whereas the two kidnappers make an appearence in the end. Simran is a girl who is tired of her parents always fighting. she is suffering from poor mental health because of her family issues and cant seem to concentrate on her studies as well. she is immature, emotionally weak, tired and frustrated. the actors are in their mid 30s and shown as very strong and dominant just as male are represented in the mass media. one of them is person of color which again shows that people of color are involved in these type of activities. this way we have shown a lot of mispresentations in our film opening which are commonly shown in the media products regularly.

mise en scene

Image
in our first shoot we hid all the pink stuff because our actor was a male and this is originally my room (and i love pink) but then in the second reshoot with Simran we put all the pink things back because she's a teenage girl and that would make the perfect mise en scene! we bought a fake Gun because real was dangerous for the crew and we bought green masks which really gave that money hiest vibes to be honest. we also got Simran minimalist clothing like khaki pants and plain light pink shirt to give off the feeling that she as a teenager makes simple decisions in life just like she did later on in the movie, we bought the clothes to construct this narrative.

pre production

so the pre production included all the planning, storyboard, moodboard, mind mapping, synopsis, discussions from the start of the film opening to what we will show in the end. the title of the movie and the production title. we also did the location scouting and decided the locations for the shoot. we borrowed light from the teacher for the last scene and we learned how to use the filmic pro before shooting. we also discussed the shot sizes , movements and angles we would try to shoot. moreover, we also decided and bought the mise en scene eg clothes, props etc. we also had our laptops ready for the post production editing so that there's no unforeseen closure. We also confirmed with the 2 actors (kidnappers) if they were available and if they had any problem with the reshoot and told them everything beforehand.

discussing the lighting

Image
for the lighting, we decided to keep it lowkey throughout the film opening to give that suspenseful vibe we also used a blue light in the last scene to give a very blueish effect. we borrowed the light from our teacher. in the second reshoot i made a huge mistake and used the camera's flashlight then our teacher asked us to use this chargeable light which is originally yellow but we put a blue lid on it.

location scouting

Image
for the location we needed 2 locations, first at someone's house and an abandoned kind of place. we were two group members so we had to choose either of the houses.

team discussions

Image
we discussed everything in detail before the production from camera, mise en scene to lighting etc.

second shoot teacher's comments

second shoot (preliminary)

Image
we decided to cast Simran in this one but still it required improvement. it was better than the previous one though.

teacher's suggestions on the first shoot

Image
i asked my sir of what he thought about it via whatsapp while Simran was at my home and we had just finished shooting. this is what he said. i was disappointed to my core cause i was the cameraman and i wanted it to turn out really well but practice makes a man perfect. in the voice messages, sir asked us to show creativity, he did not like the lighting, mise en scene needed to be improved and he asked us to add a variety of shots.

preliminary first shoot

Image
We had decided to cast my brother annd Simran came to my house for the purpose. it took us literally the whole day to get my brother to act and shoot but in the end we didn't feel what we wanted the audience to see and we knew that we had to do it again but this improved our camera skills, mise en scene, lighting etc a lot and it helped us a lot.

research into other film openings and movies

we researched on youtube for ideas and inspirations. our main inspiration was the film opening by zainab naveed known as "the harrowing" . another insipration was from the film opening "the captive" we also really liked the movie "room" . in "the collector" movie the way the girl gets kidnapped, we also thought to do it that way but then we changed our plan.
